NETWORK
Intro to the Network
The Network is our interface between our research and public institutions, science, research institutions and the wider public. We offer various opportunities to connect with us and learn about bibliometrics and related topics. Come and join us for our webinars, conferences and summer schools. We look forward to sharing and discussing our latest research results with you!
WEBINARS
In our webinars we offer insights into bibliometric research, data and applications. Open events are a central part of our knowledge and skills transfer strategy. In the moment, we mainly focus on…
Open Research Seminars
This series presents current research by colleagues from Germany and abroad—talks are either on bibliometric methodological questions or on compelling projects that use bibliometric data and tools. It is intended for members of the Bibliometrics Competence Network as well as anyone else who is interested. Each seminar includes a 30-minute talk followed by a 30-minute open discussion. Everyone is cordially invited! Contact us to join our mailing list: kb@dzhw.eu or follow us on Linkedin and/or Bluesky for announcements and registration links.

NETWORK MEETINGS
KB network meetings are internal events that bring together members of the KB community twice a year. They serve as a platform for knowledge sharing and hands-on exchange at the working level. Junior and mid-level researchers are especially encouraged to participate. Each two-day meeting features focuses on changing topics. In recent years, we have addressed current developments in classification, explored new indicators, and more.
The event takes place at GESIS – Leibniz-Institut für Sozialwissenschaften in Cologne.
The event takes place at the Leibniz Center for European Economic Research in Mannheim.
The event takes place in digital form.
The event takes place in Göttingen.
WORKING GROUPS
The competence network welcomes the formation of working groups to exchange ideas and work autonomously on various topics. In the previous funding period, for example, the Technology and Data Cleaning working groups worked intensively on a new structure for enriched/disambiguated data in the bibliometrics database schema, while the Visualisation working group curated a series on science maps within the Open Research Seminar. The Competence Transfer Working Group produced the Bibliometric Quick Notes. Other working groups were simply used for more informal exchanges (e.g. Science and Regions Working Group).
In the course of the strategic focus on the transformation to open data, the Technology Working Group (all (technology-related) discussions about the KB infrastructure) and the Open Data Working Group (open discussion forum on OpenAlex/Open Data) are particularly active, and further new groups or continuations are always welcome.
- Technology (Christine Rimmert, FIZ Karlsruhe; Marion Schmidt, DZHW)
- Open Data (Dr. Miloš Jovanović, Fraunhofer INT; Dr. Christian Boulanger, MPG LHLT)
- Visualization (Dr. Marcus John, Fraunhofer INT; Alexander Schniedermann, DZHW)
SUMMER SCHOOL (esss)
The esss provides training and state-of the art insight into scientometrics with the corresponding methods, procedures, indicators as well as the available database products for scientometric analyses. The program combines theoretical knowledge and its practical application in various contexts ranging from research to the provision of scientific policy advice to research evaluation. The esss is aimed at researchers, especially doctoral students and young scientists, research managers, librarians and information scientists. The KB management is a member of the Summer School’s Steering Committee as part of its commitment to skills transfer and promoting young researchers. The next Summer School will take place from 08–12.09.2025 in Granada: european summer school for scientometrics – esss.info. Registration starts on 01.04.2025.
NETWORK PARTNERS
The KB is a cross-institutional network in which the partners cooperate to contribute to the further development of bibliometrics and its applicability on the basis of a shared data infrastructure.
